PABEY SENTENCED FOR PUBLIC CORRUPTION

 

 

Hammond, Indiana—The United States Attorney's Office announced the following:

 

George Pabey, 60, the former mayor of East Chicago, Indiana, was sentenced by Senior Judge James Moody to 60 months imprisonment, 3 years of supervised release, and a fine of $60,000.00, after being found guilty at trial on counts one and two of an indictment charging him with conspiracy to defraud the United States, and converting to his own use property of another. Specifically, Pabey, along with Jose Camacho, a former Supervisor/Division Manager in the Engineering Department of the City of East Chicago, conspired to unlawfully convert property and services of the City of East Chicago to Pabey’s personal use. Comacho was previously sentenced to 30 months imprisonment on counts one and two of the indictment.

 

Pabey was ordered to report to the facility designated by the Bureau of Prisons on June 1, 2011.

 

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation, and the United States Department of Labor-Office of the Inspector General. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys David Nozick and Gary Bell.
